News: SEVEN BENUE IDPs FOUND DEAD AFTER HERDERS’ ATTACK ON CAMP

Seven dead bodies have so far been counted with many others injured after armed Fulani herdsmen attacked Abagena community housing Internally Displaced Persons camp in Makurdi Local Area of Benue State. Governor Samuel Ortom while addressing angry youth who protested and blocked the Makurdi -Lafia road with the dead bodies, called on President Muhammadu Buhari to live up to his responsibility of protecting Nigerians. He described the attack on the IDP camp as inhuman, barbaric and unacceptable.  The Governor who called for urgent action against the activities of militia herdsmen across the country said if the Federal Government had taken the issue of militia herders seriously, it wouldn't have escalated to this level. He lamented that in the last two weeks, over seventy persons had been killed in Makurdi Local Government alone while various communities across Benue are suffering from same militia herdsmen.      The Senator representing  Benue North - East Senatorial District in the Senate, Senator Gabriel Torwua Suswam has condemned the unwarranted military attack on some communities in Konshisha Local Government Area of Benue State. In the past 96 hours, there has been a sustained military attack conducted by troops with  air support of a helicopter gunship targeting unarmed civilian communities in Konshisha LGA. The senator wonders why the military burnt down other Tiv villages in Shangev Tiev outside the  crisis zone. Also wo...

Beggars protest against low patronage in Oyo State

About 250 beggars in Ibadan, on Thursday, protest low patronage by members of the public following a recent rumour that some rich men usually ‘buy’ money from them for fetish purposes.  The report, according to the spokesperson for the destitute, Imam Abubakar Abdullahi, Serikin Hausawa of Hausawa Community, Oja’ba, Ibadan, had created deep hatred for his people.  “The reports that some wealthy people are buying money from beggars, including the physically-challenged people, for money rituals is not true. As a result of the claim that some ritualists do buy money from these beggars, there has been public resentment against these innocent people.  What we know is that traders, hawkers and commercial drivers do come to these beggars who are mainly blind and lame people, to change money (get smaller denominations). We need to clear our names so that people will not be punishing us for offences we don’t know anything about,” he said.  Sou...
